Watts LF7 3/8 Lead-Free Dual Check Valve Backflow Preventer, NPT

The Watts LF7 3/8 is a 3/8" lead-free dual check valve with NPT connections, approved for low health hazard protection. It features a silicone seat. Rated to 150 psi. This model is certified lead-free for potable-water installations.

This 3/8 inch dual check valve backflow preventer helps prevent the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the drinking water supply at the service entrance or at individual outlets. It is designed for in-line continuous pressure applications, such as wash-down sinks or other installations, where a hose type device connected to the domestic water supply can be submerged into a non-potable liquid. It consists of a lead free cast copper silicon alloy body, 3/8 union NPT thread female inlet by NPT thread female outlet, two plastic replaceable check valves, Buna-N seals, silicone discs, and stainless steel springs. The minimum working pressure is 10 psi (69 kPa) and the maximum working pressure is 150 psi (10 bar).

What hazard level is this Dual Check approved for?

It is rated for low health hazard (non-toxic, "pollutant") cross-connections only. Where the substance downstream could be a health hazard, codes require a reduced pressure zone (RPZ) assembly instead. The assembly is listed to ASSE 1024.

Is this model legal for potable water?

Yes. It is certified lead-free to NSF/ANSI 372, which is what state plumbing codes require for any device in a drinking-water line.

Can this device be field tested?

No. It has no test cocks and is not a testable assembly, so it cannot be certified by a backflow tester. Where a jurisdiction requires an annually tested device, specify a testable assembly (double check, RPZ, or PVB) instead.

How does this have to be installed?

It is approved for either horizontal or vertical installation, with the flow arrow on the body pointing in the direction of flow.
