Watts 9BD-NPTM 1/4 Dual Check Valve Backflow Preventer, Stainless, MNPT

The Watts 9BD-NPTM 1/4 is a 1/4" dual check valve with MNPT connections, approved for low health hazard protection. It features a stainless body and a rubber seat. Rated to 150 psi.

This 1/4 inch dual check vacuum breaker backflow preventer is designed for vending machine water supply lines to prevent the reverse flow of contaminates, such as carbon dioxide gas and carbonated water, from entering the potable water supply. It consists of a stainless steel body construction, rubber parts, dual check valves, ball check valve, NPTM end connections, and an atmospheric vent. It is designed for continuous pressure applications and complies with FDA food additive regulations. The maximum working pressure is 150 psi (10.3 bar).

What hazard level is this Dual Check approved for?

It is rated for low health hazard (non-toxic, "pollutant") cross-connections only. Where the substance downstream could be a health hazard, codes require a reduced pressure zone (RPZ) assembly instead.

Can this be installed on potable water?

No. This model is not certified lead-free, so it may not be installed in potable water systems in states enforcing the NSF/ANSI 372 weighted-average lead rule. Use it on non-potable service — fire lines, irrigation or industrial water — or order the LF (lead-free) version of this model for drinking-water use.

Can this device be field tested?

No. It has no test cocks and is not a testable assembly, so it cannot be certified by a backflow tester. Where a jurisdiction requires an annually tested device, specify a testable assembly (double check, RPZ, or PVB) instead.
