It reduces inlet pressure of up to 300 psi to an adjustable 75-125 psi downstream, factory set at 90 psi. It features a copper body and a epdm seat. Rated to 300 psi and 33°F to 180°F. This 1 1/2 inch lead free cast copper silicon alloy water pressure reducing valve is equipped with gauge tapping and a 160 psi (11 bar) gauge. It is designed to reduce incoming water pressure to protect plumbing systems and reduce water consumption for commercial, industrial and residential applications. The easy maintenance assembly consists of a replaceable seat module, double union NPT threaded female inlet and outlet and a bypass feature to control thermal expansion pressure. The temperature range is 33 to 180 degrees F (0.5 to 82 degrees C). Suitable for up to 300 psi (20.7 bar), the high pressure range is 75 to 125 psi (518 to 863 kPa) with the standard setting at 90 psi (621 kPa).

When downstream pressure from a water heater rises above the inlet pressure, the bypass relieves that excess back through the valve toward the supply, which prevents nuisance pressure build-up on a closed system. It is not a substitute for a properly sized thermal expansion tank where your local code requires one - the bypass only relieves back to the street when street pressure is lower, so check the code in your jurisdiction.
