The Watts LF223-S-HP 1 1/4 is a 1-1/4" lead-free pressure reducing valve with FNPT connections. It reduces inlet pressure of up to 300 psi to an adjustable 50-120 psi downstream. It features a buna-n seat. Rated to 300 psi and 33°F to 180°F. This model is certified lead-free for potable-water installations.
This 1 1/4 inch high capacity lead free water pressure reducing valve is used in high pressure applications and is commonly installed at the meter in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. It is designed to control the water pressure flowing to all the appliances and outlets within the building and provides an inexpensive means of supplying lower, more functional water pressure to outlets and appliances. It features a lead free cast copper silicon alloy body construction, NPT threaded female inlet with strainer by NPT female threaded outlet, high temperature resisting enlarged diaphragm for hot or cold temperatures, a sealed spring cage and seat orifice for high capacity performance. This valve can be used for accessible outdoor waterworks or pit installations. The high pressure reduced range is 50 to 120 psi (3.4 to 8.3 bar).

Common Questions
- Does it have a built-in bypass for thermal expansion, or do I still need an expansion tank?
- No - LF223-S-HP 1 1/4 does not include a thermal-expansion bypass. Once this valve is installed the system downstream of it is closed, so a thermal expansion tank (and, where required, a relief valve) must be installed to absorb expansion from a water heater. If you want the bypass built in, choose the -B version of this model.
- What pressure is it set to out of the box?
- The adjustable reduced-pressure range of LF223-S-HP 1 1/4 is 50 to 120 psi. Verify the outlet setting with a gauge after installation and adjust to your target pressure.
- Does it include a strainer?
- Yes - LF223-S-HP 1 1/4 has an integral stainless steel strainer built into the body, so you do not need a separate inline strainer ahead of it. The strainer is removable for cleaning; if the valve starts to lose downstream pressure, pull and rinse the strainer before assuming the seat has failed.
- Does it come with a gauge?
- No - LF223-S-HP 1 1/4 has no gauge and no gauge tapping. Set the outlet pressure using a gauge elsewhere on the downstream piping. The -GG version of this model ships with a gauge tapping and a 160 psi gauge.
