The Watts LF223-B-LP 1/2 is a 1/2" lead-free pressure reducing valve with NPT connections. It reduces inlet pressure of up to 300 psi to an adjustable 10-35 psi downstream, factory set at 30 psi. It features a buna-n seat. Rated to 300 psi and 33°F to 180°F. This model is certified lead-free for potable-water installations.
This 1/2 inch high capacity lead free water pressure reducing valve is used in low pressure applications and is commonly installed at the meter in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. It is designed to control the water pressure flowing to all the appliances and outlets within the building and provides an inexpensive means of supplying lower, more functional water pressure to outlets and appliances. It features a lead free cast copper silicon alloy body construction, bypass to control thermal expansion pressure, NPT threaded female inlet and outlet connections, high temperature resisting enlarged diaphragm for hot or cold temperatures, a sealed spring cage and seat orifice for high capacity performance. This valve can be used for accessible outdoor waterworks or pit installations. The low pressure range is 10 to 35 psi (69 to 241 kPa).

Common Questions
- Does it have a built-in bypass for thermal expansion, or do I still need an expansion tank?
- LF223-B-LP 1/2 includes an integral thermal-expansion bypass. When downstream pressure from a water heater rises above the inlet pressure, the bypass relieves that excess back through the valve toward the supply, which prevents nuisance pressure build-up on a closed system. It is not a substitute for a properly sized thermal expansion tank where your local code requires one - the bypass only relieves back to the street when street pressure is lower, so check the code in your jurisdiction.
- What pressure is it set to out of the box?
- LF223-B-LP 1/2 ships factory set at 30 psi. The adjustable reduced-pressure range is 10 to 35 psi, so you can dial the outlet anywhere in that band on site with the adjusting screw - loosen the locknut, turn in to raise pressure and out to lower it, then retighten and verify with a gauge.
- Does it include a strainer?
- No - LF223-B-LP 1/2 does not have an integral strainer. On dirty or older supply lines, install a separate inline strainer upstream to keep debris off the seat.
- Does it come with a gauge?
- No - LF223-B-LP 1/2 has no gauge and no gauge tapping. Set the outlet pressure using a gauge elsewhere on the downstream piping. The -GG version of this model ships with a gauge tapping and a 160 psi gauge.
