Watts 500-12 1/2" Float Valve, Bronze, Flanged

The Watts 500-12 is a 1/2" heavy-duty bronze lever-arm float valve that holds liquid level in cooling towers, refrigeration make-up lines and irrigation tanks. Its machined inlet flange mounts through a tank wall or bulkhead, and serrated long and short arms set the shut-off point. It ships without the float ball and rod, which are ordered separately. It features a bronze body and a buna-n seat. Rated to 165 psi and up to 180°F.

This 1/2 inch heavy duty mechanical float valve is used in commercial, industrial, and agricultural applications for controlling high capacity water flow and can be tank wall-mounted. It is ideal for use in air conditioning, refrigeration, and irrigation systems. This valve has a bronze body with a machine flange on the inlet side with 1/2 inch female NPT pipe threaded inlet connection and male straight-pipe threaded for locknut outlet connection. Includes locknut and gasket for bulkhead mount. It has serrated arms for easy adjustment of water level, bronze long and short arms, replaceable seals, and no-jam single lever action. The maximum pressure is 165 psi (11.4 bar).

Common Questions

Does this include the float ball and rod?

No. Watts bronze float valves ship without the float and rod; order an FLT-C (copper) or FLT-P (polyethylene) float and a 3/8"-16 rod separately.

Can I use it on drinking water?

No. This valve is not certified lead-free and is for non-potable service only — cooling tower and refrigeration make-up, irrigation, livestock watering and tank fill. Do not install it on a potable water supply.

How does it mount?

Through the tank wall: the machined inlet flange passes through the bulkhead and the straight-thread outlet takes a locknut and gasket to seal the penetration.

What is the flow capacity?

20 GPM @ 50 psi. Size the valve to how fast the tank or trough has to refill, not just to the pipe it lands on.

What size float and rod does it take?

The rod thread is 3/8"-16 on the whole bronze float valve line. Float diameter depends on the valve size and the shut-off level you need — check the Watts float valve catalog for the matching FLT-C or FLT-P float.
