Common Questions
- Crimp or expansion fitting -- which is this?
- This is a crimp/insert fitting (ASTM F1807): the barb pushes into the PEX tubing and a separate copper or stainless crimp ring is compressed over the joint with a crimp tool. It is not a cold-expansion (ASTM F1960, "ProPEX-style") fitting, which uses no loose ring at all -- the two systems are not interchangeable without swapping tooling.
- What standards is it listed to?
- ASTM F1807, ASTM F877, CSA-B137.5, NSF-14, NSF-61.
- Is this a reducing fitting?
- Yes -- the ports are 1/2" Barb x 3/8" Barb Coupling. Match this against the run before ordering; a reducing fitting cannot be swapped for a same-size part.
