Zurn 34-ZW1017XLC 3/4" Lead-Free Aqua-Gard® Thermostatic Mixing Valve - Point of Source (ASSE 1017)

The Zurn Wilkins 34-ZW1017XLC is a 3/4" lead-free point-of-distribution (master) thermostatic mixing valve with Sweat connections. It blends hot and cold water to a field-set outlet temperature of 95°F to 131°F. It is listed to ASSE-1017. It features a lead-free bronze body. Rated to 145 psi. This model is certified lead-free for potable-water installations.

The ZW1017XL Aqua-Gard® Thermostatic Mixing Valve is utilized in both residential and most light commercial point-of-use installations to mix hot and cold water and reduce the hot water temperature in the distribution system to 122°F (50°C) or less. The ZW1017XL valve is suitable for installation in areas inaccessible to end users at the hot water source, and is recommended to be installed with a shut-off valve and thermometer in the tempered water line for safety and accuracy in conjunction with the ASSE 1070 device. Included with both inlet strainers and check valves, the ZW1017XL can also be installed in any position.

Common Questions

Can I install this at a lavatory or sink?

No. This valve is listed to ASSE 1017 only, a point-of-distribution standard: it tempers water leaving the water heater for the building distribution piping and should never deliver water directly to a user. Install an ASSE 1070 listed valve downstream at each fixture.

Does the hot and cold supply pressure matter?

Yes - the maximum allowed pressure differential between the hot and cold inlets is 15 psi. A bigger imbalance than that is a real install-failure mode: the valve cannot hold its set temperature if one side is starved relative to the other.

Does it have integral checks?

Yes. Check valves and strainer screens are built into the hot and cold inlets to stop cross-flow between the supplies and keep debris off the thermostat.
