Zurn 2-500XLYSBR Lead-Free Water Pressure Reducing Valve with Wye Strainer

The Zurn Wilkins 2-500XLYSBR is a 2" lead-free pressure reducing valve with single union FNPT connections. It reduces inlet pressure of up to 300 psi to an adjustable 25-75 psi downstream, factory set at 50 psi. It features a lead-free bronze body. Rated to 300 psi and up to 140°F. This model is certified lead-free for potable-water installations.

The 500XLYSBR Pressure Reducing Valve includes a wye strainer for added debris protection, and is best suited for industrial water lines and commercial irrigation systems with high flow rate capacity and low fall-off. The balanced design of the piston enables the regulator to react in a responsive, smooth manner to changes in the system flow demand, providing vital protection from inlet pressure changes. The direct acting integral bypass design prevents buildup of excessive system pressure caused by thermal expansion, and the all bronze body and threaded bell provide superior corrosion-resistance and easy access to the internal system, saving you valuable time and labor costs.

What pressure is it set to out of the box?

2-500XLYSBR ships factory set at 50 psi. The adjustable reduced-pressure range is 25 to 75 psi, so you can dial the outlet anywhere in that band on site with the adjusting bolt - loosen the locknut, turn to raise or lower pressure, retighten and verify with a downstream gauge.

Does it include a strainer?

Yes - 2-500XLYSBR has an integral strainer built into the body, so a separate inline strainer ahead of it is not required. It is accessible for cleaning without removing the valve from the line.

Does it have a built-in bypass for thermal expansion, or do I still need an expansion tank?

2-500XLYSBR includes an integral thermal-expansion bypass that relieves excess downstream pressure back toward the supply when street pressure is lower. It is not a substitute for a properly sized expansion tank where your local code requires one - the bypass only relieves back to the street when street pressure is lower than the closed-system pressure.
