Zurn 12-35XLCH 1/2" Lead-Free 35XL Atmospheric Vacuum Breaker, Brass, FNPT

The Zurn Wilkins 12-35XLCH is a 1/2" lead-free anti-siphon (atmospheric) vacuum breaker with FNPT connections, approved for high health hazard protection. It features a brass body. Rated to 125 psi and up to 180°F. This model is certified lead-free for potable-water installations.

The 35XL Atmospheric Vacuum Breaker is utilized in high hazard, non-continuous pressure applications for protection against backsiphonage of contaminated water into the potable water supply. The main valve body is made from cast bronze with a lightweight plastic float, and is ideal for use in both irrigation and laboratory applications. The 35XL prevents backsiphonage in an economical way, and features a maximum working water pressure of 125 psi and a maximum water temperature of 180°F. Choose from options like a rough chrome plate finish, polished chrome finish, and vertical inlet and outlet with a rough chrome finish.

Common Questions

What hazard level is this AVB approved for?

It is rated for high health hazard (toxic) cross-connections, but only against backsiphonage. The assembly is listed to ASSE 1001.

Is this model legal for potable water?

Yes. It is certified lead-free to NSF/ANSI 372, which is what state plumbing codes require for any device in a drinking-water line.

Can this device be field tested?

No. It is not a testable assembly, so it cannot be certified by a backflow tester. Where a jurisdiction requires an annually tested device, specify a testable assembly (double check, RPZ, or PVB) instead.

Will this protect against backpressure?

No. An anti-siphon (atmospheric) vacuum breaker protects against backsiphonage only. It will not stop backflow caused by backpressure -- a downstream pump, elevated piping or a boiler -- which requires a double check or RPZ assembly instead.

How does this have to be installed?

It must be installed vertically (upright), above the highest downstream outlet, per its installation instructions and ASSE listing.
