Description

The Zurn Wilkins 112-975XL3N is a 1-1/2" lead-free reduced pressure zone (RPZ) backflow preventer with FNPT connections, approved for high health hazard protection. It features a bronze body. Rated to 175 psi and 33°F to 180°F. This model is certified lead-free for potable-water installations.

The Wilkins 975XL3N Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow Assembly is purpose-built for irrigation and landscape applications where space constraints and replacement efficiency are critical. Designed in an N-pattern configuration, the 975XL3N features a lay length optimized for direct drop-in replacement of existing irrigation backflow installations, eliminating the need for additional fittings or enclosure modifications. Built on the proven 975XL3 platform, it provides high hazard protection against backsiphonage and backpressure while reducing installation time, labor costs, and long-term maintenance through Wilkins’ EZSwap® modular check design and shared repair components.

Features

  • N-pattern configuration with lay length designed for drop-in replacement of legacy irrigation and landscape backflow installations, reducing labor, materials, and enclosure rework.
  • All-bronze body ensures durability against the elements, with a Noryl®* check body and stainless-steel fasteners to resist corrosion over time.
  • Shares body, EZSWAP® modular checks, relief valve components, and repair kits with the 975XL3 platform for simple maintenance and stocking and service efficiency.
  • Test ports located on valve’s centerline make install and testing easy
  • Interlocking connected checks allow for ¼-turn access for fast disassembly and maintenance
  • Low-cost repair kits extend the lifespan at a significantly lower cost
  • Lead Free* bronze body (0.25% max. weighted average lead content) suitable for potable and irrigation applications.
  • ASSE Listed, UPC® Listed, Meets NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 & 372 requirements; Approved by the Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research at the University of Southern California; Safe Drinking Water Act Compliant

Common Questions

What hazard level is this RPZ approved for?
It is rated for high health hazard (toxic) cross-connections, so it may be used on either high or low hazard service. The assembly is listed to ASSE 1013.
Is this model legal for potable water?
Yes. It is certified lead-free to NSF/ANSI 372, which is what state plumbing codes require for any device in a drinking-water line.
Does this assembly have to be tested every year?
Yes. This is a field-testable assembly with 4 test cocks. Most water authorities require it to be tested and certified by a licensed backflow tester at installation and annually thereafter. It carries USC FCCCHR approval, which many jurisdictions accept as their sole approval list.
What shutoff valves are included?
It is supplied with quarter-turn ball valves on the inlet and outlet.
How does this have to be installed?
It must be installed vertically (upright), above the highest downstream outlet, per its installation instructions and ASSE listing.
Does the relief valve need a drain?
Yes. An RPZ relief valve is designed to discharge, and it can dump a large volume of water, so it must never be installed in a pit or below grade and the discharge must be piped to an adequate drain through an air gap. The air gap fitting is not included with this model and is ordered separately.
