The Zurn 1-F49BR is a 1" Fire Powerball Butterfly valve -- despite the "Powerball" name this is a quarter-turn butterfly-disc shutoff, not a ball valve. It is UL Listed, C-UL and FM Approved for shutting off a fire sprinkler system for repair or maintenance, with built-in tamper switches that signal the valve leaving its full-open position to the alarm panel. It features a bronze body. Rated to 300 psi.

Shut off valve Fire Powerball Butterflies are operated with a slow closing 1/4 turn anti-water hammer valve. The valve should always be in the open position when the system is active. Tamper switches signal movement of the valve from the full open position to an alarm control panel, and to auxiliary equipment such as an indicating light or audible alarm in the area of the valve installation.

- Is this really a ball valve?
- No. Despite carrying "Powerball" in its name and shipping in a catalog section alongside ball valves, the F49BR is a butterfly valve -- a slow-closing, quarter-turn anti-water-hammer disc valve. Zurn’s own spec sheet titles it "Fire Powerball Butterfly Valve."
- What is the tamper switch for?
- The valve must stay fully open while the sprinkler system is active. Two built-in switches signal any movement off the full-open position: one wired to the supervisory circuit of a listed fire alarm control panel, the other to auxiliary equipment such as an indicating light or audible alarm.
- What is it rated for?
- A maximum working water pressure of 300 psi, UL Listed, C-UL and FM Approved, sized 1" through 2-1/2", with threaded (F49BR) or grooved (F49BRG) ends.
