This 8 inch triple duty valve, Model TDV, is a triple function valve used in flow measurement applications to eliminate the requirement of a hand-tight shutoff valve, a check valve, and a flow control valve on the pump system. It consists of ductile iron body construction with grooved ends and anti-rotation lugs, two NPT connections on each side of the valve seat, two brass metering ports with non-slam silent check valve and gasket cap, brass drain tap, bronze disc, stainless steel valve stem, and stainless steel spring.

Common Questions
- Do I need a separate meter to read the flow?
- Yes. The TDV 8 is a differential-pressure device: it meters through two brass metering ports with gasketed caps. You connect a balancing meter (or a differential gauge) across the two ports, read the pressure drop, and convert it to GPM using the Watts flow chart for the 8" body. The valve does not display flow on its own. If you want set-and-read balancing without a meter, use the Watts iDROSET CSD direct-reading series instead.
- Can it also shut off the circuit?
- Yes. The TDV 8 gives positive, drip-tight shutoff, so it doubles as the service valve for the circuit and you do not have to buy and install a separate ball valve next to it. It replaces the hand-tight shutoff valve on the pump discharge outright.
- Can I use it on a domestic hot water recirculation line?
- No. The TDV 8 is not a lead-free model, so it is restricted to closed hydronic heating and chilled-water loops and other non-potable service. For DHW recirculation balancing, choose the lead-free equivalent — the Watts LFCSM-61-S (PT-port) or LFiDROSET CSD (direct-reading).
- Does the TDV replace my check valve?
- Yes. The TDV 8 is a true triple-duty valve — one body on the pump discharge doing three jobs: a non-slam silent check that stops reverse flow through an idle pump, positive shutoff for pump service, and balancing with metering ports to set the flow. That is one grooved connection instead of three, so you drop a separate check valve and a separate shutoff valve from the pump package.
