Watts SD-3-MF 1/4 Dual Check Valve Backflow Preventer, Stainless, SAE Flare

The Watts SD-3-MF 1/4 is a 1/4" dual check valve with SAE Flare connections, approved for low health hazard protection. It features a stainless body and a rubber seat. Rated to 150 psi.

This 1/4" dual check valve backflow preventer with atmospheric port and strainer for carbonated beverage machines prevents the reverse flow of polluted water, such as carbon dioxide gas and carbonated water, from entering into the potable water supply due to backpressure backflow. It consists of stainless steel body construction with internal rubber components and is designed for continuous or intermittent pressure applications. It has an atmospheric port that provides visual indication of failure of the second check and a wye pattern strainer. The connections are female NPT inlet with SAE male flare outlet. It is ideal for use on post-mix carbonated beverage equipment and dispensing equipment for tea and coffee. Maximum working pressure is 150 psi (10 bar).

What hazard level is this Dual Check approved for?

It is rated for low health hazard (non-toxic, "pollutant") cross-connections only. Where the substance downstream could be a health hazard, codes require a reduced pressure zone (RPZ) assembly instead. The assembly is listed to ASSE 1022.

Can this be installed on potable water?

No. This model is not certified lead-free, so it may not be installed in potable water systems in states enforcing the NSF/ANSI 372 weighted-average lead rule. Use it on non-potable service — fire lines, irrigation or industrial water — or order the LF (lead-free) version of this model for drinking-water use.

Can this device be field tested?

No. It has no test cocks and is not a testable assembly, so it cannot be certified by a backflow tester. Where a jurisdiction requires an annually tested device, specify a testable assembly (double check, RPZ, or PVB) instead.
