The Watts LFN170M3-CSUT 1 1/2 is a 1-1/2" lead-free commercial master tempering valve with NPT connections. It blends hot and cold water to hold a field-adjustable outlet temperature of 90°F to 180°F. It is listed to ASSE 1017. It features a brass body. Rated to 125 psi. This model is certified lead-free for potable-water installations.

This 1 1/2 inch lead free master tempering valve is designed for use in commercial and institutional applications, to mix hot and cold water to reduce high service water temperature to the building distribution piping system. It is designed for installation at the hot water source. It features a lead free brass body construction, a copper paraffin thermostat assembly and a lockable temperature adjustment for increased safety. Polysulfone internals resist excessive heat, liming and corrosion, and a single-seat design ensures tight shut off in the event of cold water supply loss. This valve also includes three-in-one checkstops to prevent cross flow, isolate valve for maintenance and integral screens to filter out debris. Listed to ASSE 1017 and IAPMO cUPC in compliance with CSA B125.3. The temperature range is 90 to 180 degrees F (32 to 82 degrees C) and the maximum pressure is 125 psi.

Common Questions

Can I use this at a lavatory — is it ASSE 1070 listed?

No. This valve is listed to ASSE 1017 only, which is a point-of-distribution standard: it tempers water leaving the water heater for the building distribution piping. An ASSE 1017 valve should never deliver water directly to a user. For a lavatory you need an ASSE 1070 listed valve, and for a shower an ASSE 1016 device — install one of those downstream of this valve.

What temperature range does it deliver?

The outlet temperature is field-adjustable from 90°F to 180°F. It holds that setting down to 0.5 gpm of flow. Set it for the distribution system, not for the fixture — a point-of-use valve downstream sets the final delivered temperature.

Does it have integral checks?

Yes. Check valves are built into the hot and cold inlets to stop cross-flow between the supplies, along with integral filter washers/screens that keep debris off the thermostat. No separate check valves are needed at the valve.

Can I lock the temperature setting?

Yes. It has a vandal-resistant locking mechanism that secures the temperature setting — normally required on commercial and institutional master valves.

What happens if the cold water supply fails?

The valve shuts down to a virtual drip, so a cold-supply failure cannot send full-temperature hot water downstream.
