The Watts 8BI-C is a 3/4" anti-siphon (atmospheric) vacuum breaker with NPT connections, approved for high health hazard protection. It features a brass body and a rubber seat. Rated to 125 psi and 33°F to 180°F.
This 3/4 inch hose connection vacuum breaker backflow preventer permits the attachment of portable hoses to hose thread faucets and prevents the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage. It consists of a brass body with chrome plating, stainless steel working parts, a rubber diaphragm and disc, a draining stem, and a break-away set screw for tamper resistant installations. It is ideal for inside and outside, health hazard installations requiring non-continuous pressure such as service sinks, swimming pools, photo developing tanks, laundry tubs, wash racks, dairy barns, marinas, and general outside gardening uses. The maximum pressure is 125 psi (8.6 bar).
Features
- Stainless steel working parts for longevity
- Durable rubber diaphragm and disc for consistent positive seating
- Maximum temperature is 180 degrees F
- Easy to install for contractors or homeowners
- Includes: Tamper Switch
Common Questions
- What hazard level is this AVB approved for?
- It is rated for high health hazard (toxic) cross-connections, but only against backsiphonage. The assembly is listed to ASSE 1011.
- Can this be installed on potable water?
- No. This model is not certified lead-free, so it may not be installed in potable water systems in states enforcing the NSF/ANSI 372 weighted-average lead rule. Use it on non-potable service — fire lines, irrigation or industrial water — or order the LF (lead-free) version of this model for drinking-water use.
- Can this device be field tested?
- No. It has no test cocks and is not a testable assembly, so it cannot be certified by a backflow tester. Where a jurisdiction requires an annually tested device, specify a testable assembly (double check, RPZ, or PVB) instead.
- Will this protect against backpressure?
- No. An anti-siphon (atmospheric) vacuum breaker protects against backsiphonage only. It will not stop backflow caused by backpressure — a downstream pump, elevated piping or a boiler — which requires a double check or RPZ assembly. It also may not be used under continuous pressure: the supply downstream of it must not stay pressurized for more than 12 hours in any 24-hour period.
