Common Questions

What hazard level is this AVB approved for?: It is rated for high health hazard (toxic) cross-connections, but only against backsiphonage. The assembly is listed to ASSE 1001.
Can this be installed on potable water?: No. This model is not certified lead-free, so it may not be installed in potable water systems in states enforcing the NSF/ANSI 372 weighted-average lead rule. Use it on non-potable service — fire lines, irrigation or industrial water — or order the LF (lead-free) version of this model for drinking-water use.
Can this device be field tested?: No. It has no test cocks and is not a testable assembly, so it cannot be certified by a backflow tester. Where a jurisdiction requires an annually tested device, specify a testable assembly (double check, RPZ, or PVB) instead.
Will this protect against backpressure?: No. An anti-siphon (atmospheric) vacuum breaker protects against backsiphonage only. It will not stop backflow caused by backpressure — a downstream pump, elevated piping or a boiler — which requires a double check or RPZ assembly. It also may not be used under continuous pressure: the supply downstream of it must not stay pressurized for more than 12 hours in any 24-hour period.
How does this have to be installed?: It must be installed vertically (upright), above the highest downstream outlet, per the installation instructions and its ASSE listing.
