The Watts 288A-Z29 3/4 is a 3/4" anti-siphon (atmospheric) vacuum breaker with FNPT connections, approved for high health hazard protection. It features a brass body and a silicone seat.
This 3/4 inch anti-siphon vacuum breaker backflow preventer for hot or cold water prevents the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage. It consists of brass body construction, chemical resistant silicone seat disc, brass bonnet and hood, and an atmospheric vent to prevent spilling. It has a full size orifice to assure pipe size capacity and maximum flow. It is ideal for low flow, non-continuous hot or cold water health hazard applications such as on laboratory equipment.
Features
- Brass body
- Full size orifice for maximum flow
- Female NPT inlet and outlet
- Hot or cold water
Common Questions
- What hazard level is this AVB approved for?
- It is rated for high health hazard (toxic) cross-connections, but only against backsiphonage. The assembly is listed to ASSE 1001.
- Can this be installed on potable water?
- No. This model is not certified lead-free, so it may not be installed in potable water systems in states enforcing the NSF/ANSI 372 weighted-average lead rule. Use it on non-potable service — fire lines, irrigation or industrial water — or order the LF (lead-free) version of this model for drinking-water use.
- Can this device be field tested?
- No. It has no test cocks and is not a testable assembly, so it cannot be certified by a backflow tester. Where a jurisdiction requires an annually tested device, specify a testable assembly (double check, RPZ, or PVB) instead.
- Will this protect against backpressure?
- No. An anti-siphon (atmospheric) vacuum breaker protects against backsiphonage only. It will not stop backflow caused by backpressure — a downstream pump, elevated piping or a boiler — which requires a double check or RPZ assembly. It also may not be used under continuous pressure: the supply downstream of it must not stay pressurized for more than 12 hours in any 24-hour period.
- How does this have to be installed?
- It must be installed vertically (upright), above the highest downstream outlet, per the installation instructions and its ASSE listing.
