Per Sloan's own spec, it serves a water closet, 1.28 gallons per flush, a top spud connection.

Is this exposed or concealed, and does it need a wall box?

Exposed -- the working parts are visible on the wall surface.

How is it powered, and what happens in a power outage?

Hardwired -- no battery to replace, but an electrician must run power to it. It has a true mechanical override, so it still flushes by hand if power is lost.
